I posted one thing but it did not post - so if this is a second
posting of essentially the same thing, then excuse me - this is a first
for me. I have been suicidal my whole life and intermitently depressed.
I am on meds for depression from my pdoc. Any suggestions how to get
past this mental agony/isolation other than suicide?

The right medications should help with the mental agony part. Only
interaction with others will help with the isolation part, and posting
here is a good start.
What medications are you on (or have you tried)? How have they worked
for you? Are you satisfied with the results you are getting?

Hi Patti,
I also agree, that a combination of the correct medication and therapy
can help get past the feelings you describe. I've had similar feelings
before. Someone once told me that one can have suicidal thoughts but
not actually want to end your life, just what you feel. Its apart of
the illness. Talking with someone, or journaling can be a good way of
finding out what's going on inside. Sometimes an antipsychotic can help
with the negative thoughts. I also have to take a double antidepressant
(an ssri, and snri) as well as a mood stabalizer. Each person is
different though, and it can take a long time to find out what works
for you, and may require some time in the hospital.
Anyway, I hope this is helpful, welcome to asd.

Interaction on the computer can be a good way of breaking a bit of the
isolation.

In agent, under group > properties > posting messages
select the boxes marked prevent articles from being archived and
observe no archive ( something like that. I can't have both this
message and the form on the screen at the same time, so I have to try
to remember for more that two seconds at a time, difficult for me.
this will prevent the messages from being archived on some services,
but not on others. some people see it as necessary, some see it as a
courtesy, some see it as nonsense at best.

I am somewhat computer illiterate. I can't find agent - group -
properties - posting messages. OK - I can't find group - if I did
perhaps I would find the others. Any more advice?

hi.
both messages came through here. that sort of thing happens a lot on
Usenet, don't let it bother you.
Suggestions? Meds and talk therapy, either or both. People don't
react the same to medications, sometimes it is a long battle to find
out which one, or combination, works for you. By what you post, my
guess is that you are not there yet, maybe some more work with the
pdoc.
finding a good talk person can also be a challenge, but it can be
worth it.

That's a "characteristic" of the Google Groups interface; articles take a
long time to appear. They used to have one of the worst possible interfaces
to newsgroups; now they've improved it and it looks slightly prettier (and
shows more adverts) but works even less well.
You can get direct access to the newsgroups from your own computer; you
need a "news reader" program - you probably already have "Outlook Express",
but "Thunderbird" is probably better and at least as easy to use. You also
need an account with a "news server"; most good ISPs provide one as part of
the contract, but if yours doesn't (AOL recently ended their newsgroup
service, for example) there are others that are publicly accessible (even
to people still using AOL); some are free, others charge a fee.
I use the news-server called "Individual.net" which charges ten Euros a
year, which I think is very good value indeed for one of the best
news-servers anywhere. The others in this list are still free of charge:-
<http://www.individual.net/>
<http://news.sunsite.dk/>
<http://www.readfreenews.com/>
<http://www.x-privat.org/international.php>
<http://news.aioe.org/>
There are several others too. People in ASD will probably be happy to give
you their recommendations about news-servers and software.
<http://www.newsreaders.com/> is a useful site for information about
software.

Have you tried talk therapy? Why do you feel suicidal?
