Object: New car
My wife has been borrowing a car from her friend since ours broke down a
couple weeks ago, and now that I'll be getting disability, and my wife
is getting paid more and will be getting a raise in a few weeks, we're
going to buy the car from her friend. $200 a month for the next five
years. It's a 2007 Honda Civic EX Coupe. I've never had a new car
before. It's really nice, and my wife needs a good car now that she
works twenty miles away, and now I'll have a car while she's at work.

That's because they decided that their CVCC idea was fun for the EPA only.

Yea, he's really nice. He knew we needed a car, and he only used this
car for long trips because it's got good gas mileage. He drives a Hummer
mostly.

It needs an oil change. It told me so, so I guess I'd better do that.
It's kind of small for me. I have to kind of squirm into the driver's
seat, and I have to lean the seat back or my head touches the roof (or I
just open the sunroof.)

change the oil every 5 thousand miles religiously, and that sucker will run
forever. :))
my hubby is 6'2" and our first honda was pretty much an oversized roller
skate. you can imagine what a tight squeeze that was! but we didn't know
any better back then....we were just tickled to be buying our first vehicle.

it's worth the investment, believe me. a pretty cheap way to keep the thing
running forever.

our first little civic got 45 mpg. it was a stick shift.

I just changed the oil in our other car. If I knew we'd be keeping the
Honda, I would've just put the oil into that.

I think this one get's 38mpg. It's a stick shift as well. I don't like
automatic transmissions. It also says it's a ULEV. Ultra-low emissions
vehicle.

my first 4 hondas were all stick shifts. i tho't i'd really moved up when i
got my van and it was automatic. :) now i'm afraid it would be very hard
to go back!

If it ever starts acting up, you'll wish you could go back. I had a
Taurus with a really bad automatic transmission. I had to shift it
between 1, 2, and D all the time.

My Integra (when it was street legal) would get 30mpg on synthetic 5w30
in town and EPA rated at 25mpg. Highway was pretty much the same
although EPA rating was 28mpg. The car has about 120k on it and cylinder
compression is only down by 5%. I ran it on dino oil for the first 30k
of its life but then started getting paid enough that I didn't mind
crawling under the hood and doing $25 oil changes. After all, it paled
in comparison to what I was spending on the aftermarket bits and pieces.
Now I auto cross it, although I didn't get out last year at all.

I hate sunroofs (well, usually technically a moonroof). They reduce
headroom by like 3".

Yea, I have to lean the seat back a little to be able to fit in the car,
and then I feel like one of those dopey kids that lean the seat all the
way back so they can't see over the dashboard.

Honda did something to the Accords around 2000 where the ergonomics were
so fucked up I couldn't sit in the car, put the seat back far enough to
fit my legs inside , or recline it enough to keep my head off the roof
and still reach the wheel.
When you figure that my early 90s Integra is built on the Civic platform
and I fit quite comfortably in that, seeing what they did to that
generation of Accord was a real bummer.

can'nt go wrong with a honda, new or used.
make sure the friend has no money owing on the car.
once you take ownership of the car, i think the (if any) money owing
becomes your problem.
no fault of your friend, just the bank/finace company.

He owns it. I've seen the title, and it's clean. No leins or anything
He's got a lot of money and seven cars. He owns a big apartment complex.
This is the only way we'd ever be able to get a new car. Our credit is
messed up. He's doing us a favor. When we make our first payment to him,
we're doing a contract. I'm drawing it up right now. I'm not going to
get screwed on this.
