Depressed patients with atypical features have a different
hypothalamicpituitaryadrenal (HPA) axis profile depending on their
illness course, suggesting that they represent biologically distinct

early-onset chronic depression who have atypical features from those
seen in patients with either later onset or less chronic depression.
