Newsletter question |
I've been thinking about writing a newsletter, and emailing it to people who
register interest. The general theme would be mental health, medications,
and so forth.
I would be happy to write such a thing (probably monthly), but only if it
were worthwhile. What do people here think? If you think it might be useful,
what kinds of things would you (say) want to see in it?
Thanks,
Nom

Take a look at the NG news:comp.risks (it's also a mailing list
but reading via Usenet is preferable) for an example of a
good newsletter.

I don't know. If you have stuff to write, I'd look at it. You
might discuss unadventurous clinic formularies and pdocs who say
SSRIs don't sedate. Not more than monthly, I'd say, and
have an on-line archive (requiring a password is fine by me)

I'd love to see one. Pertinent new research comes to mind, be it
meds, genetics, or therapeutic approach, even if just pilot
studies. It's good to know what's being done. Encouraging, in a
way.

It sounds interesting, I'd have to give some thought about what I would
want to see in it.
Information on how to "play the medical game" would help. I think too
many people aren't willing to push back...tell their doctor to shut up
and LISTEN to their complaints. How to deal with insurance companies,
appeal to decisions on medications not on the formularies, saving money
on Rx's (I go to a different pharmacy for just about all my meds because
of significant cost differences). Getting on patient assistance
programs. Just dealing with the health care system when you don't have
great insurance or a lot of money is a lot of work and with very
fragmented information.

Hi Nom. Good to see you. I think I'd like to receive it, at least on
a trial basis. There's so much on the internet in terms of articles
about depression, so I'd be interesting in the content. Would you
want ppl to contribute to the content? Of course your Medicines guide
is awesome, and that's a resource I want to continue to be able to
draw upon. It sounds like an promising idea, I'd just like more
info. As for what I'd like to hear, anything positive, informational,
and uplifting. Thanks for the idea.....

Thank you, everyone, for the suggestions. I'm going to mull them over for a
bit, and think on what to do.

Hi Nom,
The mental health letter might be interesting if contributors might
discuss identifyable objectives of mental health. 'Modern Psychology'
is adrift within its own neurotic moral compass 'self concept'. Shaped
of course by that 'science' reflecting it. Current mental health
foundational assumptions may not go deep enough. Since the recesses of
the unconscious mind are shaped and echoed by what we think we know,
how we shape the mind would be the real subject of mental health. Can
we do that and ignore Political Correctness? Good luck. Seems like a
philosophical endeavor to me. HT

LOL well that was useful feedback, David!! and so nice, too.
Well Nom I used to get newsletters from the psych day centre and I
loved them. I might be past that stage now but I did enjoy them when
I was young. I liked the poetry, the jokes, little stories - you know
I get more laughs in this, my depression group, then I do in other
groups??

Thank you for the positive response, I've been here for eleven years under
this user name, although the email address has changed. I am in trouble, but
it passes. My thought process tells me that I am in a martial law without
anyone's knowledge. It's a program - Welcome to the group.
