Tell me about your house. Do you like it? Is it drafty?

I do like it, but right now, it's kind of driving me crazy.
It was built in 1854 and added on at various times after that, and the
last owner was a complete disaster (and I don't think that the house
was in great shape when he got it). This guy was incapable of fixing
anything properly... and actually completing ANY project. So it's a
long process of restoring the house to... well, not original
condition, but something that can be lived with. And I have this
carpenter who is terrific when he's here... but he's not here more
than he is here. And I'm getting a little tired of living in a
construction zone.
The only good thing is that I don't feel obliged to clean very much
because there's just no point.
And, yeah, it's kind of drafty... especially since the previous owner
used old pairs of his wife's underwear for insulation. I kid you not.

That's pretty funny (the underwear part).
Well, it sounds like a great big old house with bannisters and stuff. Which
is nice. I hope you're enjoying yourself in between the frustrations. The
no cleaning part, major bonus.

Believe me, it seriously loses its charm after a while. That and the
steel wool that he mysteriously tucked into EVERY opening.

I think if I can just get a couple of the rooms finished, it will be a
lot better. And every day I smile and think, I'm here and not in the
old house. (Of course, things would be a lot better if the old house
would just SELL, but that's another story.)

There may have been a method to his madness. Steel wool keeps cockroaches
out.

Mice, too, allegedly. But it's highly flammable, and traps dust like
mad.

Steel wool's flammable? I must try it (not that I don't believe you :)

So flammable you can use it for tinder, the fine kind.

Steel wool in holes is supposed to stop mice and rats coming through
them. It hurts their delicate little noses. I don't know if it works.
Personally I prefer having cats.
