No one knows how much you can help yourself using CBT, not even you! |
Your doctors and therapists don't know either until you show them. The
hardest part is convincing yourself to try, try, try Cognitive
Behavioral Therapy techniques again and again. Don't give up! You
may not get it right away. Keep trying!
I believe you can do a lot for yourself on your own like I have done.
I didn't have access to a cognitive therapist when I pulled myself out
of deep depression using the techniques in Feeling Good by David Burns
and A Guide to Rational Living by Albert Ellis. I was forced to try
on my own.
I haven't seen any posts in this NG that indicate that those who visit
here aren't capable of learning to use CBT effectively to change their
beliefs and subsequently their unproductive emotions . If it's taking
you too long to figure it on your own, here's a good place to find a
qualified CBT therapist near you.

It may take awhile to find a therapist who believes in you, in the
meantime, you will never know how much you can do for yourself on your
own until you've done it.
There are a lot of resources online that can teach you how to dispute
your irrational beliefs and challenge your "cognitive distortions".
You can start right now. So why don't you? You've got nothing to
lose.
CBT techniques can help for depression, anxiety, and a bunch of other
psychological problems too numerous to mention, but first you have to
give the techniques a try. Don't assume you will fail. Withhold your
judgement until you've given it your all, then try harder and get some
help if you feel it's necessary. I'll type it again, don't give up!

Maybe if it doesn't work the third or fourth time, it wouldn't hurt to try
some other things. Doing the same thing over and over, even though it
hasn't worked in the past, doesn't seem like a recipe for success to me.

Kinda like that do the same thing over and over and expecting different
results = insanity thing.

Yes, I can. I already did, so I know exactly how much it helps me. It
should say:
"I don't know how much you can help yourself using CBT, I'm a dope."
