There must be some kind of way out of here,
Said the joker to the thief...
theres to much confusion
and I can't get no relief,,,,,,,,,,
Knowing the way way follows on to way,,,,,,,,,

Is there another trainspotter here? I love real railroading, and have several railroad

Concert harp? Piano?

I have no experience with string instruments and I was able to pick up a
small harp and within 15 minutes was playing little tunes on it like
frere a jacques.
I have a tenor saxophone but it's been far too long since I last played it.

Bravo! I'm truly impressed.
If I had that much talent, I'd feel like I owned the world; so it saddens me to see you
here. In view of your considerable talent and skill, I can't help wondering why you make
so many strange/seemingly pointless posts. I've looked for real insight, and you are
capable of it; yet, you make it so rare. IMHO
Well now, have you studied music formally? A piano has strings, can you play a piano? What
about a harp? And now for the real challenge: can you play a sitar? I once read that they
can have more than 300 strings---all, but a few, are resonators or something like that. I
have a couple of Ravi Shankar CDs.
I saw a six string banjo on the news tonight. The person being interviewed said that every
banjo is different, in terms of sound and so forth. I have some interest in banjo, which
is to say I admire the various techniques and sounds. A comedian named Steve Martin plays
the banjo. He once said that you can't play a sad song on a banjo. I'm not sure that's
true, but most banjo parts are pretty lively.
I've only seen one 12 string. It sounded very nice. I don't recall the principle. Is the
second set of strings tuned a half step up or down? Or something like that? Did you know
acoustic pianos have three strings for each note? (If I recall correctly.)
I'm glad you revealed this fact about your self.
Whatever it takes.

here. In view of your considerable talent and skill, I can't help

wow , where do I start here , well , I'm not touching the part ,
where you say my posts are pointless , if you miss it , you miss it ,
I've been playing 5 , 6 and 12 for about 38 years , but I haven't ,
had a 5 string for a real long time until last year , I know about Steve ,
I think he's right , but that just what I think , ok , 12 string tuning goes
like this
you tune it just like a 6 string only you tune two of each to sound the same
like two , ' E's " two , " A's , two , ' D's and so on , I've never had ,
the chance to try the other instruments you name here , so I don't know ,
I suppose I could pick some sort of tune out on them ,
as for piano , I can do a little , I have an electric keyboard here ,
but its not mine although I can use it at will and I can chord on it ok , '
but the other part is a little sketchy

Fair enough. What I mean, regarding your posts, is that you write attention-getting
subject lines; but the message is rarely longer that one or two sentences, and sometimes
only a couple of words. I don't understand that. Maybe I'm the only one who doesn't
understand.
And now I'm also confused about the 12 string. With both strings tuned alike, will they
still sound slightly different because of extremely slight differences in the distribution
of their mass. In other words, they vibrate slightly differently. Is that why they sound
so mellow and rich. After all, two strings is not about increased volume, is it?
There is a picture of a sitar here: http://www.buckinghammusic.com/sitar/sittut/btut.html
I think they gained notoriety in the USA during the psychedelic sixties. I believe the
late George Harrison of the Beatles played a sitar.
I once knew an elderly man who made banjos. I think he said constructing a strong neck was
the most difficult, and most important, part of the task.
Thanks for your indulgence. I wish I knew enough about music to hold an intelligent
conversation with you. Thirty-eight years of picking is something to be proud of.
Whatever it takes.

I told you I'm not getting into the about my posting habits part ,
we all have are ways of posting and that's all there is to it ,
now back to the 12 string , the richness is caused by the extra strings ,
and the size has nothing to do with the resonance a G only vibrates like a G
no mater what the thickness of the string is
