i don't hate Americans , well maybe one or two ,
i hate some of the things that happen there ,
and it frustrates me when i see normally intelligent people ,
falling victim to such things

In general, I think most folks everywhere fall
victim to hearing what they want to hear. In many
cases, imo, opinions are formed first and most of
the subsequent research is geared to supporting
what they've already decided they believe. But, if
I believe what Janithor writes about the breadth
of media he consumes (and I do believe him), than
I will respect that he's come by his opinions
honestly. The same level of respect that I'd offer
anyone who was at least trying to figure the ways
of the world out ... whether I agreed with their
conclusions or not.
Anyways, the most likely truth is that my reaction
is all about me feeling defensive and moody for
reasons that may have little to do with the topic
under discussion.

i also believe he does his best to keep up with current events ,
and that's just my point , he has limited access to the event information ,
for example why did ALL the US TV stations decide ,
they weren't going to show any more dead body's in their tsunami coverage ,
i know , that's not a real rock solid example , but i have more if ,
you really want to know about what else your not seeing or being told about

You're absolutely right about the filters and
biases of the media but the Internet has reduced
the amount of power the mainstream media has to
form public opinion. I'm finding blogs to be the
best way, right now, to keep my mind open to
different ways of thinking about things. Of
course, it is like trying to drink from a fire
hose and that creates another kind of anxiety.

yea that's the thing isin't it now people can tell you what they want you to know ,
even if it never even happend , i really doubt that the web sites tell the true stories ,
but what a great way to control the thoughts of the readers , and then there's always the possibility of intercepting and changing
the text before it goes to public access

Access to international coverage is actually readily available in the
States. I read foreign newspapers on the WWW, pick up BBC, CBC and other
foreign TV news via satellite, and get Canadian AM stations from
Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec, both on the Internet and my own radio. But
it's in utilizing those sources that one discovers how much info is
missing from news reports originating in the U.S.

All that is available here, but I doubt that one percent of the
population uses the Internet to get its news and form opinions. For the
rest its pre-digested TV news snippets or tabloid newspapers, none of
which tries to hide their bias.

your government thinks i'm a threat to its national security ,
does your newpapers and vast media coverage tell you that ? ,
does it let you decide for yourself if you'll allow me into your home ?

without even informing you of the fact ? , and the only valid point Gayle made

at all ... she's just moody.
