Would you install WinXP in a 550 MHz computer? And Mandrake too? It's got a
19 Gig HD.

One of the machines I manage at work is a Pentium 1, running at 233 MHz,
and it's running Windows 2000 and terminal services... Not had a problem
with it yet... :)

How much RAM have you got in that machine?

Not 100% sure, but I think it's 128MB... Nowhere near enough, I know that

I'm running Mandrake 9.1 on an AMD K6-2 500MHz with 320 MB RAM and a 13 GB
HD, dual-boot with the Windows 98SE the machine came with. Linux runs
just fine - better than Windows. I think my PC is within the 'minimum
requirements' for WinXP but not the 'recommended specification', which I
took to mean that WinXP would work, but not well. I couldn't afford WinXP
anyway, so I didn't test the theory ;))

I was having a look to the machine, and with Win ME almost all the RAM is
used without running any programs. This babe has got only 180 Meg of RAM. I
need to increase the RAM before I think in running WinXP there.

Thanks for the feedback. I will try to get more RAM for the computer before
I think of running XP there. It's got only 180 Meg.

sure, but with such a tiny HD, you couldnt instal many apps on the
windows side. therefore id leave more to winxp..as mandrake comes with
all you need.;

I need more RAM, the HD, I think, can hold the two OSs all right, as long as
I do not keep many large files there, like movies and so.

Thanks.

You should be able to get Mandrake to read and write to NTFS using Samba.
If you install WinXP first, then Mandrake you may find everything is done
for you (to an extent at least).
