Object: On being a Bad Brother
My brother got a new car, new to him, anyway. It has all kinds of
features on it, some I'd never heard of, some that may not have been
invented yet. That's kind of interesting, except he goes into a mode
where he sounds like a commercial, on and on and on.
So he was telling me what the car can do automatically, and I told him
that my car expects me to know how to drive. It got quiet for a
while.

LOL.....I definitely got a chuckle out of that one.

Man, that ain't so bad. Lose the guilt, sounds like you were
justified. It wasn't a Delorean that leaps to the future at 88 mph was
it?

Wow... that's the same kind of subtle brother-like "you're a
disappointment" insults that are why I don't talk to my brother anymore.

How often do you talk to your brother? I didn't even think of you as
having siblings. How many and in what order, if I may be nosey? I'd
think he'd be over the comparison game, isn't it a little late at this
stage of the game for that kind of thing?

I have one brother, five years younger. I see him once or twice a
year. I don't think this was a comparison thing, just him maybe being
unsure about his purchase and going through the sales pitch for his
own benefit. He does it with everything though, gets kind of old.

Or it sounds like he was excited about the purchase eh?

That might be, I don't get excited, so I mighn't recognize it in
others.

Yeah, seems like. I can't remember getting excited about anything for
a long time. I have vague recollection of either developing that
attitude, or recognizing it in myself, while I was in grade school.
It's empowering, if I don't care about anything, then no one can hurt
me or manipulate me by taking anything away from me. It leads to a
bleak life, but, oh well..

Nah, he lives in Fairfield. He sends an email sometimes, I rarely
iniate anything. I feel oddly detached from almost everything. I see
my mom fairly often since my dad died, help her take care of business,
but for a long time it was a once a year thing at christmas to get
together, and I didn't like that. No ill feelings, more like no
feelings at all. It's like, if someone is around, that's okay, but if
nobody is around that's fine also.
