Oranges/Grapefruit will be ok so far |
The low was 40 with a wind chill of 35, one more cold night to go.

I'm crossing my fingers for another above freezing night. I was laughing
yesterday until it was pointed out to me about the Oranges and Grapefruit...
I keep forgetting what that'll do to the cost should they freeze out. There
I go being a self absorbed butt again.

Your spirit is too generous to ever be
labeled 'self-absorbed', imo. And, of
course there's nothing self-absorbed
about me worrying about how much I'll
pay for OJ instead of being concerned
about the financial suffering of the
folks who work the groves if the crop is
damaged.
Besides, if yer butt is warm, it means I
won't have to pay more for OJ. So, there
you have it.

You're such a sweet heart Gayle! Remember that when you are at your lowest,
you are loved dearly on this end.

We have snowdrops and cherry blossom. They don't go together.

Do you know if they still light those
smudgepot fires in the groves to keep
the chiil away? Oh, and thanks for the
weather report, I appreciate it.

This is from the Palm Beach Post:
"Citrus growers, however, are looking forward to this weekend's cooler
weather, which sweetens their fruit and makes trees hardier."
"The citrus industry generally faces danger only when mercury drops below 28
degrees for at least six hours, said Doug Bournique, executive vice
president of the Indian River Citrus League, which represents 900 growers."
I read that the farmers of the Corn fields and Greenbean Fields are way more
concerned, as they got a late start this year due to Hurricane Wilma.

Thanks, Jane, I appreciate the research.

All of the crazy weather is really
affecting the price of food (in the
U.S., anyway). Plus the rising cost of
fuel to distribute it. Still, nothing
compared to the disaster that is looming
in Africa. Drought = famine = death ...
and it's already in motion. Scary.

Yeah I read ya. I'm not huge into religion but I do say a nightly prayer

They do it in California, but it ruins the fruit. The only time they
are used is when it gets so cold that the trees might die.
We have wind machines, big motors with propellers that stir up the
air.

Yup that's what they did last night and plan to do tonight when the temps
drop again. Though some of the farmers are renting helicopters to run all
night. I kid you not.
