OT: New Birth Control Pill Ends Periods |
I just came across this in the Wall Street Journal and thought it
would be of some interest. Wyeth pharmaceutical company has developed
Lybrel, and continuous dosing suppressed periods in 71% of women after
7 months. It also eliminates PMS and cramping. This topic is
uncomfortable for me to discuss, so I hope you ladies appreciate the
info...

Interesting. I have mixed feelings on the subject. I am not opposed to
birth control but suppressing a period strikes me as weirdly unnatural.

It's bizarre but causes no harm to the body.

Here, too. When my wife was on the pill, her period was a sign of
reassurance to us that it had actually worked.

Exactly. All part of the design. The way it was meant to work. And you
raise a good point. Accidents happen. Life finds a way. What if while
nature *isn't* taking it's course, the woman becomes pregnant, and without
realizing it puts the baby at risk. The possibility of disaster seems high.

So, 71% of women who take this pill get pregnant within 7 months? ;-)

Any birth-control pill, taken without a week break, will stop periods.
Depo-Provera injections stop them for three to six months at a time. I
used to do the latter until the osteoporosis warning came out. I
didn't have a period for nearly three years (the desired effect, I
have multiple fibroids). I'll spare the TMI... right now I miss those
Depo shots.
