If you had headphones duct taped to your head for a week, and the same
song played over and over for that period (Ok, you win a thousand
bucks) and you could choose the song, what would it be?
Me: "The Association" playing 'Everything That TouchesYou'

Not familiar with the artist. There's a lot of great music out there
to share. I found this guy from Senegal, Yousou N'Dour (probably
misspelled.) Fantastic band (he sings on a Peter Gabriel song too.)
Love to blast it.

Your selection, is it great? What kind of music is it?
brian

Sigur ros is from iceland, in icelandic, many songs also in a made up
language called Hopelandic... just long soothing beautiful songs,
inventive use of instruments, you don't need to understand the words. I
learned of them because Thom Yorke of Radiohead is a fan. There's some
amazing videos of them on Youtube.

This is probably the song i'd choose, and I love this particular
performance of it.

"Whole Lotta Rosie" by AC/DC.

He-he... you should just move to Wisconsin... I've never heard so much
AC/DC.

Tony Bennett's recording of The Good Life. At thirteen or so, a
neighbor played that over and over day after day until I faced, in my
thirteen year old mind, going mad. But I didn't go mad... unless...

Oh, the good life.....
Yeah, that could drive me mad. What a voice on him though, eh? And
the best toupee in the biz. Besides Tony Curtis. And Charleton

brian
p.s. one of my neighbors played and sang to Cindy Lauper, 'time after
time'. that was only for an hour 20 years ago, but I still feel the
effects.

<laughing> I feel for you. As I thought about your original post, I
thought, "What he's asking, literally, is what song would you choose to
have your mind slowly and excruciatingly annihilated by?"
But as to songs that last, that, after years, still have the power to
take you in and move or exhilarate or exalt me (as, for instance, the
one you mentioned), there are some. Cannonball Adderly's Mercy, Mercy,
Mercy; Boston's More Than A Feeling, Jascha Heifez's recording of
Beethoven's Violin Concerto, Beethoven's Third conducted by Toscanini,
the Hi-Los doing Small Fry, Brubeck's whole Time Out album, Glenn
Miller's Moonlight Serenade (still my favorite dance number-- it sends
me)... What a delightful, delightful list (that goes on) and exercise.
Thanks, Brian.

My pleasure, Kirby. That's quite an eclectic selection you have there.
You could contact Spielberg and pick the music for one of his movies.
I'd go see it.

My moods change too fast for anything to be a favorite. But for $1000 I'd
go for Kansas's Icarus.

Yeah, but if it was "carry on my wayward son, " I'd go mad after a
day. Or 'dust in the wind'.
I am not sure what Icarus sounds like, but they have at least one good
song, kind of a suite, lotta organ melody.
At least no one said 'Mr. Roboto" by Styx. What was up wit dat?

If they did that to the detainees in Guantanamo, they'd be up on charges of
human rights violations. The detainees themselves would probably be
screaming "Please stop! I'd rather have the water-boarding again!"

(chuckle) "Domo Erigato, Mr. Roboto...."
I saw another docum. on TV showing Styx in concert, doing the 'acting'
part of the Mr. Roboto show....Oh, the audience was booing like mad, as
the little blonde guitarist sat on a speaker, trying to emote to the
lead singer guy about something, way over the top...like, "But music
CAN come back to help us, we just need everyone to wish REALLY
hard...." or something dreadful like that. It was like a Mr. Rogers
episode. It was like Spinal Tap's, "Stonehenge" without the humor.
Then they showed a kid who met the little blonde guitarist in the
elevator of a hotel and the kid told him Styx used to be good, but they
sucked now. It was like "Thanks!"...."Oh."
Domo Erigato, Mr Roboto....catchy!
HAHA...Bring back the waterboarding, Please!! The Archies, anything,
Please!

Nearly any song off of any one of Dave Brubeck's ~180 albums.

Brubeck...another of my neighbors, from westport. I like that one very
popular song of his, I don't know the title. Great piano phrase.

if it can be classical, chaminade's concertino for flute and piano

It would have to be more than $1000 USD. For one thing,
one would be owed overtime and then more after a certain
point.

Obviously it would be a song which lasts at least 20 minutes.

There's a few classical pieces heard once a day for
a year or so each. I *think* I could live with hearing
them once a day again for a week, but not more.

How about "Tubular Bells I"? (45 minutes)

I hope the earphones shut it out for everyone else.

Clair de Lune - Debussy

ahh, Claude...(I think)...I can balance the checkbook to classical
music, it helps. I bet after a week, you'd come out of it, listening
to that, with more brain cells than I would listening to a 1966 Pop
song, no matter how good it is.
