Outlook and Outlook express |
x-no-archive: yes
So explain this to me:
I've always used Outlook express, but now I have this phone gizmo that will
synch with my computer, including my email, but I have to be using Outlook.
So I dutifully but and load Outlook and set up accounts that are *identical*
to the accounts I've set up in Outlook express. But I can't send any email.
It will receive but can't send. Tells me that that message can't be sent.
And when I try to run a test on the settings, it can't send a test message.
What gives? The identical account information works in one program and
doesn't in the other. I reinstalled Outlook, btw, with no success.

i have wondered about this sort of thing
OL is looking more and more like it's gonna hafta be used (for the PIM
PDA/mobile phone/etc connection). But it's a bit bloated and cumbersome for
just checking mail. OLExpress works fine (security issues asside)
maybe it's possible to keep OLEx active and select it as the default mail
reader (and disable that side of OL). That is what i'll be wanting to do
soon. Having said that, there must be something wrong in the account setups
coz OL email obviously does work (to state the blindingly obvious..). Do you
still have Express installed? Maybe they are clashing when it comes to
sending mail..

Identical account info should work in both programs. Maybe you made a
type somewhere? Try using the Outlook Import wizard to import your mail
settings from OE.
And for the record, what is the exact error message you get when a mail
cannot be send?

"Unable to send message"
I did a check on Windows (on the premise that something in Windows only used
by OL, and not OLE, might be the problem), but there was nothing wrong
there.
It ended up being that "rich text" was set as the default for OL. It
wouldn't work until I changed the default to plain text.
Another two hours down the drain.... <:o)
But, on the bright side, somewhere in all of that I figured out how to use a
pic of Maia for my desktop.

Your firewall, your provider's, or your antivirus program probably don't
allow any other type of outgoing mail than plain text. And yes, such things
can be a biatch to find.
A good thing that you solved the problem, though.
But, on the bright side, somewhere in all of that I figured out how to

I'd love to see some more pics of her. She seems very much like a Good
