Some get through occasionally. It's always media.fastclick that seems

Kicks Internet Explorer's ***** and comes back for more. I haven't had
an unwanted popup since I installed it a couple of years ago. Most
spyware doesn't recognize it, though I still have to use Ad-Aware to
get rid of adware.

I think I installed that once, the never ending check lists for setup
made me give up.

Setup takes a while, but once it's done, it's great. Yeah, I'm biased.

So why don't you just block fastclick? I haven't had an unwanted popup
in months.

there are some popup testers. i tested Google Bar last night.
you can also make a hosts file on Windows that will reject all traffic from
certain sites.

I've been searching for that option, but from what I see in Firefox I
can allow blockups on specific sites but can't find where to restrict
access to certain sites. Where is it Slunky?

It's so funny, in my family I'm considered the computer expert. I can
even install RAM. My Mom doesn't know how to save a file or create a
folder. And I had to explain to her that her pictures in kodak
gallery are maintained in some data storage facility maybe in New York
even. She asked how in the hell her pictures get from here to New
York.
Both parents tag-teamed a project to set a picture of the grandkids as
the wallpaper one afternoon. They gave up after about an hour but had
some ideas and notes.
And they are well ahead of the curve for people their age.

There's a Firefox extention called AdBlock Plus. Go to the Firefox
website and download it. Then anytime you see an ad, right click on it
and choose "Block ads from this site" or something to that effect. After
you've trained it a little you'll be getting pretty much an ad-free
internet.

there are different types of popups. for instance, one is javascript's
window.open.
here's a check site which is not reliable.

There are also pop-unders. Some still slip by Firefox, but Safari on my Mac
usually catches everything...I think.
