Wow. Breathtaking. I have a couple questions though. The way she holds
her one hand when it isn't on the keys. Is that a personal preference or
would she have been trained to do that for a reason? And what do you think
is going through her mind when her eyes are closed? Is she enjoying it? Or
focused on doing it right? Or both maybe?

Yes, breathtaking indeed. I think the movements are both her artistic
reaction and a method of keeping time whilst keeping left and right in
sync. I could be completely wrong of course. My father is a pianist and
he plays mostly Mozart and Schubert.
My father has very small hands and apparently, according to him, so did
Mozart even when an adult although he wrote a huge amount while still a
child. My father can't really play Rakmaninoff for example who uses a
lot of 8 key bridges in the concerto I'm familiar with. So Mozart's
piano concertos are more suited for a child. Having heard so many
Mozart concertos growing up it sounded pretty good to me and I have
heard the 26th many times although I didn't know it was called that. I
can play chopsticks perfectly!!! :-)

Were you ever tempted to learn piano? It's funny my daughter is
musically minded, but took up saxophone in primary school, then went
on to learn guitar by herself. I have offered her lessons but she
isn't interested. I guess it might have something to do with kids
asserting their individuality eh?

Yes, my story is similar to your daughter's. I learnt piano for about
five years and actually got quite good. But it was forced on me by my
parents. They were both musicians and they were horrified to discover
none of their children were musical till I came along. It was in my
fith year that I realized I was doing it for them rather than me. Piano
is not my instrument although I love to listen to it. I then switched
to guitar and taught myself although I did have lessons in later years
and I am still playing today. I can still play a few pieces on the
piano, badly. But I haven't really touched a keyboard in nearly forty
years.
I think we all have to assert our individuality at some point. Piano is
a ***** of an instrument unless you have natural ability. I am not a
particularly good musician but I can sing quite well.

Hey Rhi :)

Wow. Breathtaking. I have a couple questions though. The way she holds
her one hand when it isn't on the keys. Is that a personal preference or
would she have been trained to do that for a reason?

Okay, well without being in her head, I can only comment from my own
perspective. She would not have been trained to do that. IMHO, that is
purely an emotive response to the music. She is being swept away in
the immense quality of tones and evocative trance-like atmosphere of
her own near perfect performance. She is simply lost in the moment,
and allowing her body to move to the music in an pure, spiritual and
childlike way. I can almost be there with her, feel it with her. It is
so real to me.

And what do you think
is going through her mind when her eyes are closed? Is she enjoying it? Or
focused on doing it right? Or both maybe?

Her concentration is absolute, but with the level of genius I
witnessed in that child, I would say that she is right there in the
moment allowing the music to wash over her - and her body is so
attuned to the now automatic movements of her hands - quite simply I
believe she is in ecstasy.
A wonderful miracle for the world to enjoy yes? :)

Indeed, such mastery and at the tender age of 10. Let's hope that she
is being nurtured and protected for her own sake and that of the world
