Question Regarding Medication |
Hello all,
I am new here. Found this group by typing a specific word when I was given
a list of all the newsgroups I have available to me. Anyways I got a
question. My question is:
Is Paxil a type of Zoloft or Prozac?
Been told that the side effects I go through are mild compared to other side
effects of other medicines.
Been on Paxil for 4 years now and the side effects come and go, but I get
through them.
Any free advice would be great.
Thank you,
Angela

Paxil, Prozac and Zoloft belong to a group of medicines known as selective
serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). These medicines are thought to work
by increasing the activity of a chemical called serotonin in the brain.
These links from drugs.com will give you more specific info on each of these
drugs...
Paxil (Paroxetine) http://tinyurl.com/w7df
Prozac (Fluoxetine) http://tinyurl.com/w7d3
Zoloft (Sertraline) http://tinyurl.com/w7dl
I've personally been on all three at one time or another and am currently on
Prozac 60mg/day. The side effects were the most noticible for me on Zoloft
and the least noticible for me on Paxil. Prozac I do feel some of the side
effects mildly but none of them really badly. Of course, the experiences
can and often will be different for different people and also depends
somewhat upon what dosages you are at and what other meds you are taking in
conjunction with any of these.

I believe they are all three SSRIs (Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors). I
had minimal side-effects on Paxil, extreme insomnia on Zoloft and they
wouldn't give me Prozac because it can suppress appetite. YMMV

Your best place for answers to medication-related questions is
alt.support.depression.medication. And, as others have said, Paxil,
Zoloft, and Prozac are three different drugs in the category of
Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI).
