My students from the last group I taught made a good show trying to get
higher notes than they got just by an opportunistic move. My assistant got
his averages wrong, and some those who saw their final note drop after the
corrections, were crying that we should made no changes. On the other hand,
my time has been taken by visiting doctors, getting lab tests done, etc., so
I used the inter-term time to do that. Well, today the head of department
sort of told me off for not being there to speak with the students who were
annoying with his presence in his office and his boss.
The issue is a bit more complicated than that, but that's the core. I do not
know now whether I'll be getting my extra wages just because of that. I keep
asking myself why this stupid head of department did not called me (or his
secretary) to let me know there were some issues I had to attend. In my 30
years teaching, everything is over after I sign the records and deliver it.
But not now. I feel like there is a sort of conspiracy against me.
On the other hand, this twit gives a lot of power to the students, and the
students are conscious of the power they have on the lecturers. I think the
students should be heard and we must be fair with them, but what I hate is
that they try to use their rights to try to manipulate you with unethical
purposes with the threat of do you harm.
Anyway, I feel depressed, and to top it all, I feel bad physically. I find
that too much to bear, specially if I do not get those extra wages.
