i could be wrong, but with the newer model PS3's, Sony ripped out the
PS2 chips to make it cheaper, thus, those PS3's cannot play PS2
games. again, i might be wrong or partly wrong about that.
Not all games are compatible. It's an emulation layer since it's a
different hardware architecture (IBM cell processor). They have a
compatibility list of games, and I guess it's different between the 60GB
and the 80GB, and depends on the firmware versions.
