The Onion, in writing about Woodstock nostalgia, said that it's not
important that a bunch of people did drugs and had sex. It says, "It
was Woodstock, not Holocaust." I believe that this statement reveals
a wrong set of priorities and a very destructive frame of mind.

Holocaust was the monument to human ugliness. It was a consummation of
hideousness that lives in some people's souls. Woodstock was a monument
to human beauty - to all the wonderful feelings and goodwill that made
it possible; that awakened beauty in people's souls and filled them
with compassion, goodwill, sweetness and warmth.

To say that ugliness is more important than beauty, is to have a
hideous set of priorities that honor evil while trivializing good. Like
those who say that beauty is only skin-deep while ugliness goes down to
the bone, the people who believe such a thing create a world that is as
hideous as is their mindset, while grossly mistreating anyone and
anything that could impart life quality, dignity, richness and color.
Such people attack everything that is good in the human soul and,
rather than drawing upon human talents to make a better world, instead
stifle all inspiration and ingenuity and make our world ugly and bland.

This is the problem with The Onion; indeed this is the problem with
most Gen-X'ers. They fail to see the etherial and the divine. My
generation will not make that error.
