reading a lot can be so important and helpful... it expands your
brain, makes you feel somewhat sharper... makes you think about all
kinds of things you wouldn't otherwise think about... So often we have
images of ourselves, ideas about who we are, or who we'd like to be...
and then we realize on some level, that those images don't always
conform to the reality, that we are no always who we'd like to be...
and we spend so much time comparing ourselves to other people in so
many ways... I guess it's all about finding balance, in som many
areas... thinking about internals but also externals... trying to
compromise in many areas... ultimatly though you have to try to meet
your own needs and please yourself... you can't spend your life trying
to please everyone else and meet their needs... It just won't work... I
guess you can never completly get away from trying to please other
people, to some extent... but it can't be your ultimate motivation...
that has to be to please yourself...

I've always been a people-pleaser, even since I was a little kid. I
guess the disappointment of not being nearly as great as a hoped I
would dopresses me the most. I wish my family knew how to just love me
for me but I guess I kind of scare them, especially in the past two
years. I guess I'm still not okay because I just want to get better for
them. I should really want to get better for me. I don't know.

I think I know what you mean... I definatly have, as Oprah calls
it, "the disease to please"... I have friends who are that way as
well... I always worry about meeting other people's needs... but what I
tell myself often is that it just doesn't work... no matter how hard
you try, you can't please everyone... because ultimately, it doesn't
have anything to do with me, it has to do with them... there are always
people who won't apprecite you no matter how hard you try... I don't
think we can help wanting to please others( familly, friends, society)
to some extent. life is about compromising to some extent between
meeting our needs and other people's needs... life doesn't function
well without that compromising... but If we only try to please other
people(or only rebel against pleasing them), we are letting other
people control and rule us, we are givving them way too much power...
and that can never be satisfying on any deep level...
