I think it was a semidomesticated margay. all the twoleggeds

yes. i chose not to taste the bird food, though, because the package noted
that it was not intended for human consumption.

Pet food is designed to appeal to humans, because humans have to be
persuaded to buy it. I expect anyone who knows a cat or dog, is all too
aware of what they would choose to eat if it was left up to them.

I've often wondered why we don't get mouse, sparrow or stickleback
flavoured cat food - I'd buy it (but I wouldn't eat it). Having read
about the state of meat passed for pet food that's then sold back into
the human food chain, I wouldn't eat current cat food either, or
processed meat for humans.
I wonder if they inject water into pet-meat as they do to bulk up meat
for humans.

Look for 'phosphates' or 'polyphosphates' (or E450 in the EU) in the
ingredients; those are the chemicals used to 'bind' the water. Sometimes
called 'tenderizers' or 'emulsifiers' or 'stabilizers'.
,-----[ E for Additives by Maurice Hanssen - Thorsons, 1984 ]
| In July 1979 the magazine of the Consumer Association, 'Which?', did
| a survey [1] on cooked ham and found water added in percentages ranging
| from nil right up to 42 percent in certain canned products. They found
| no relation between price and water content.
'-----
[1] That was in the UK. I dont know if things have changed since, or what
it's like in other countries. The same trick is used on other cooked
meats, and on frozen chicken, and sausages.

Haha...right on! My cats would just as soon feast on a freshly killed bird
or rodent. My dogs I think seem content to eat the poop in the cats' litter
boxes. If the dog/cat foods were made to the animals' specs, I could imagine
some very grossed out pet owners (and perhaps some soon-to-be former pet
owners).
