Object: So Exhausted
I genuinely think I am expiring - dying. It scares me. I don't know
what to do. Go to doctor and say I am so exhausted I can't move or
think and my chest feels like a weight is on it?
That doesn't give them much to go on.
*****. Maria needs me. Can't just poop out now.

Hormone supplements? Stimulants? Or getting more rest? Whether it's a
lot to go on or not, if it's a persistent problem, it needs to be
addressed. Perhaps you have a sleep disorder?

Nom,
This is an embarrassing question, but I hadn't thought about hormone
supplements . . .could it be that at my age (past 48) that I might need
this??
You are right. Tomorrow I am going to call doctor for I know what
depression exhaustion is and this isn't that. It is something physical
- I feel like a car that is wearing out from overuse and age. I am a
bit worried.

It does seem like a reasonable possibility, doesn't it? However, you
may need them for unrelated reasons, as well. Stress can do nasty
things to your thyroid gland.

Good luck to you. I would strongly suggest you see an endocrinologist,
not a GP, for this kind of thing. Diagnosing endocrine disorders can
be much more difficult than treating them.

Been feeling that way for a good six months now... like I can feel the
heart attack coming on. Suck it up... keep fighting... you don't have any
other option.

I will say this only once. I do not respond to your posts or replies
because about a month ago you took a cut at me *using* my daughter in
your dig. That was over the line for me. You likely have no recall of
this. But I do. So I will not interact with you anymore.

I have yet to meet a doctor that had anything reasonable, much less useful
to say about depression.
I've found having no choice is the best motivator for doing what has to be
done.

Hi Lisa,
Maybe you are right. I slep until 1:00 P.M. today!!! That is not like
me and I am beat now and its only 10:30. I think Nom might have
something with hormone supplements. Do you know what they are exactly
and if they help energy?
How are you?? Are you getting out and about much?

You have suceded the massive treadmill of academics. To fit into their
little pattern, at what cost to your life? For all the effort, you
should be a $300 an hour attorney.
I always wonder if academia really pays, unless you go straight to the
target, like a good MD usually does.
You tell me, what is going to see you through, dead latin, or latin
american (spanish)?
I can see you are not in it for the $$, but you should be, or else be a
law librarian at a University.
Just my take, and I KNOW you know *way more* than me.

Hi Tim,
You are right, not in it for money *but* I'd love to have much money
for security for Maria and I (and to give some to her father).
Actually law professors make great money . . . just have to find the
job again. I tried being a lawyer for about 8 months - I Hated It.
People not working with other side, using rules in unethical ways,
being difficult during discovery, teaching young associates how to
undermind witnesses even when they are telling the truth etc. etc.
So when I teach law I make ethical responsiblity a big part of all
courses and try to encourage settlements in civil or plea bargains in
criminal (and guilty pleas when guilty) - to get them to do justice.
As far as language, actually in academics Latin is very very helpful
and you are well looked upon when you have this language. I need it to
read old manuscripts and books only in Latin. But you sure are right,
Spanish in todays world is very helpful (as are asian languages).
Do you speak another language? Would be helpful in your paralegal (or
legal :) ) work.
