Doing nothing. Well, you know, playing full time with my computers. I still
have students working towards their PhD, but they will finish soon.

It's a rest-cure from 30 years of "publish or perish". I can now take it
easy and have a period of rest. Even though I'll be retired, I know I will
not stop working. I cannot understand myself without doing science. But now
retired I can read more, learn many things I never learnt for the pressure
to publish, and in general, to take it easy.

Oh do I believe that. I was moving stuff around on
one system (quota problem I got caught out) and I
feel like I was working but really only keeping the
status quo.

when do you think they'll finish up? then you can be really
retired.
it's easy to become a total hermit when you don't have to get up
and go out to do anything. be careful. it only makes depression
worse. i saw it happen to my father. he only came out of it when
an old friend decided to buy a house a block away from him. now
they get together a couple days a week to do nothing together,
and he's feeling much better.

Don't worry, Lisa, I have always been a hermit. I feel comfortable that way.
I am now under no obligation to show up at work, and things have become so
unpleasant there that I don't want to show up unless I have to. According to
the proceedings, I will have more than two hundred grand by December the
10th. I have never had that much amount of money together in my life. I plan
to buy an small apartment and look the way to put the rest of money to work
in such a way to increase my pension income. Perhaps you read I've been
thinking to put an Internet cafe, but lately I have been figuring out other
possibilities which can work better than that. I plan to buy my apartment in
front of the National University. Now, we researchers continuously invite
people to work with us and we are also invited. So, if I bought three
apartments instead of one and hire the other two to visiting professors or
the people who invite them, I maybe can do better than with a cyber cafe. I
have not decided yet, but I'll have to do something with the rest of the
money I will have free. Wish me luck as a man of business.

that sounds like a good plan. i'm glad you're thinking about
safe places to put your money. real estate can go badly, but
won't completely crash the way a new business can.
enjoy!
