And I didn't hear anything else for a moment, just sat in this echoing
crowd of words.
Then I looked up at him and said,
"Be careful with that. That word makes me do crazy things. I was
married at 18 and my ex-husband called me "babe" the entire time. For
22 years it was "Babe" this and "Babe" that. The first man who called
me "baby", well, I went crazy and changed my whole life."
And then I laughed.
