My grandfather has lung cancer, and he's never smoked a cigarette in his
life. He had pancreatic cancer about 6 years ago, and the doctors didn't
think he would make it. They took out part of his stomach and pancreas, and
he had to go through chemo and radiation for awhile. They said if he made
it two years without it coming back, he would most likely not get it again.
Now they're saying the lung cancer is from the pancreatic cancer, that a
dormant cell must have traveled through the blood stream or something into
his lungs. He has a tumor. They give him less than a year.
This will probably be his last Christmas, and I probably won't be able to be
there with him because of work (he's four hours away). I've considered just
quitting my job so I can spend the holiday with him and my grandma. When I
was little, my parents and I used to go down there every year for Christmas.
The rest of my family, except for an aunt and uncle and their two kids, live
down there.
My grandma was so worried about him that she passed out and fell down her
basement steps, and broke her hip. She's the kind of woman who is always
rushing about, cooking, cleaning, making everyone else comfortable. She has
another kitchen in her basement where she does all her big cooking and
baking. Now she can't go down the stairs.
My grandparents are such good people. They're Polish. When they were
young, they both lost their homes when the Nazis invaded Poland. They met
each other on a bus going to a concentration camp. They came to the U.S.
with $100 and hardly any English-speaking skills. Yet my grandpa was able
to work his way up in a construction business and eventually own the
business, turning it into a steel bridge company. Boryn Steel.
They've had a hard life. They don't deserve this. They don't.

Hi, Stacey. Sorry you are going through such difficult emotions. But welcome
to the board.
I'd talk more, and I will later. But right now I have phone calls to return
and some bills to write up, or I won't get paid on time.
Bye for now.
