St Johns Wort and Effexor. |
I have been feeling a little low recently and I'm on 150mg modified
release Effexor/Venlafaxine. My wife had some St Johns Wort for SAD of
which she suffers. However, she claimed that SJW gave her headache, so
she stopped taking it. So I decided to give it ago with my regiem of
20mg of Zyprexa/Olanzapine and 150mg of Effexor/Venlafaxine. All I can
say is wow it really seems to augment this combination.

be very careful with st johns wort. it's a drug, not just some
plant. talk to your pharmacist about what prescription
medications are ok to take with it. many antidepressants are
not. you don't want your blood pressure increasing to life-
threatening levels, or anything on that order.

SJW is a drug, and drugs don't always mix well. I don't know if there's
any official advice on which it doesn't go with, but it's worth asking
your pharmacist. Don't believe SJW web-sites - few of them try to give
neutral information.
Be careful in sunlight as one of its side-effects is that it can make
you hypersensitive to light.

In the middle of a british winter. I shouldn't think so.

Up here, I don't think we had sunrise today or yesterday. My mother took
a medication that meant she had to cover up even at this time of the
year, when it was sunny. I'm not sure SJW is that severe, but it's worth
bearing in mind.

Everything you will read about SJW will tell you NOT to take it if you are
on prescription anti-depressants.
I'm guessing you're feeling a placebo effect at the moment.
Be careful.
