stereotypes of other people |
We do tend to stereotype each other a lot don't we? We have all
these ideas, images, stereotypes of who we are... I do it too, as much
as anyone else... but is there a way to get past these stereotypes? not
that our ideas of other people don't have some, or even a lot of truth
to them... but could it be that there is a lot about people that we
don't know? could it be that we are projecting, with our own
personalities, ideas, prejudices etc... and not being completly fair to
the people we have opinions about?

Certainly. But have you considered the fact that since we all do it, the
truth always lies somewhere in between?
That may be by design. Maybe it is impossible, in the physical world, to
ever really know another person completely.
I forget the details, but I once read a theory about beauty lying neither
in the object nor the eyes of the beholder. Beauty is created and exists in
between the object and the beholder.

this is a subject I think about a great deal... perception and
reality... how much does our internal perceptions actually correspond
accurately with external "reality"... I tend to think the same as
Cyberdroog... that is has to be somewhere in the middle, and that it
varies a great deal, on a continuum... that we can never fully know
external "reality", but there has to be at least some truth to people's
perceptions or people wouldn't be able to function in life at all, in
any way...

we are not sharing the same experience of life at the same time, group
intelligence isn't really intelligence, dissmissiveness kills.

I do think everyone stereotypes when put in certain situations. I used
to not be prejudice. I used to believe that there could be PEACE on
earth 2. How WRONG I was.

I do think everyone stereotypes when put in certain situations.
I think we do it whever we meet someone. We look at their clothing,
their walk, their facial expression; we hear their voice -- and then we
decide who they are. It's an efficient way to determine quickly how we
should act toward them. I see nothing at all wrong with this. I find
when I do this I am correct in about 99% of my meetings.
I used to not be prejudiced.
I was much more accepting in the past. My prejudice started when I
returned to university classes at 48. I met "the best of all types" of
men and women, and the vast majority turned out to be not significantly
unlike the worst.
I used to believe that there could be PEACE on
earth 2. How WRONG I was.
There will never be peace on Earth until everyone believes and feels
and strives for exactly the same things, and they do it with the same
resources.

you're stereotyping right there.
i personally don't do that. i hold off on all such decisions for quite
a while. forever, with some.

How so?
I wouldn't say that's my opinion, but I'm not basing
it on academics and university types.
What do you mean by the "best of all types"
