The largest |
We had dinner last night at the largest Indian restaurant in the world.
It must be, because it said so inside the doorway. Eight-hundred and
sixty seats. It's in a huge mid-Victorian ex-Congregational chapel,
tastefully restored - very nice in itself.
The food was excellent too - a buffet with about twenty dishes to choose
from - eat as much as you like - even Wynne was outfaced. Not expensive,
either. So, if you're ever down Cleckheaton way, you know where to eat.
No, I don't get a free meal for this.

The opinions given above may be mine. They might also
just be what I feel like saying right now, okay?

Well, it impressed me, especially that it should be in such a small
place. I suppose you have to set up where there's an available chapel.

i don't miss the prices. We paid double compared to what we pay at ome like
(in real terms, taking into account exchange rate)
not saying the food wasn't nice like. Some was really yummy. Particularly
something encountered (and promptly consumed) from somewhere just outside a
village that goes by the name of Froom (as in, broom, or vroom vroom). It
was local cuisine and was crusty and cheesy and other things i don't recall.
I also forget what it tasted like (guessing savoury) but i do remember
wanting to buy more. Alas, we were getting down to our last few quid..
don't miss the Indian particularly though. We have restaurants equal in
quality here but not as expensive. Not as enormous in size by the sounds of
it, but we can live with that..

It's the only time I've been anywhere ~est. £15 a head. Indian food is
easily the cheapest high quality British food. The first Indian
restaurant opened about 1800, before our first chip shop! Chicken tikka
masala is the single most popular dish in the country, beating fish and
chips or pizza.

Was that Frome, in Somerset? (Your pronunciation is accurate). Not far
from Bath or Cheddar. Cheese with everything in the West Country :))

Indian cuisine was invented in England (well some of it).

I thought the prices were reasonable when compared with other
restaurants. Also when you get out of London it can be very
cheap. We don't have much Indian in NZ and what we have is
nothing compared to what I had in England.
Aussie is fantastic for food. Probably the best in the world for
authentic variety, price, quality and convenience. USA is good
for price and variety but like NZ everything seems to have a
blandness that appeals to local tastes.
