x-no-archive: yes
These are just like the ones I took in Spain, so you know
what to expect ;-P. There are a lot less of them, as I
was running out of batteries (I suspect this battery was
bad, as it discharged too quickly). They are random pics
taken along the road from the border to Lisbon proper.
*** Portugal ***
Well, things are more or less the same. The main change
is, the area of Spain I showed before has a mostly
Mediterranean climate, while Portugal tends to be milder
and more humid (an "Atlantic" climate), like northern
Spain. So the landscape gets greener the more to
the north we get (Seville is in southern Spain, while
Lisbon is in central Portugal, so we're driving to the
northwest all the time).
There are more rivers here:

A windmill. Yeah, I should have zoomed on it, sorry. Ever read "Don
Quixote"? Well, there's a famous scene of him marching against the
windmills. That was in New Castile, which is northeast from here (a
far drier land), but the windmills are very similar (and yes, they
still
exist, I've seen them):

I liked this from the car, but it doesn't look like much on the
picture.
Oh well. It's some sort of village besides a creek. It was pretty nice:

Approaching Lisbon. The traffic was quite denser here. You see the
guy with the extended arms on the right? There's one just like that in
Rio de Janerio, Brazil (on top of a mount). The bridge right in front
of
us is also interesting: Lisbon is located in the mouth of the river
Tagus,
one of the largest in the Iberian peninsula, and has two main bridges
crossing over it; one, the one in front of us in the pic, is a replica
of
the famous red bridge in San Francisco; the other is a really long one
(14 km) which can be seen from space (they say):

Crossing the Tagus:

At this point the battery was almost dead, so I didn't take any more
pics
of the city; I regret it, as I keep no pics from the "new" part of
town.
I took plenty from the old quarters, though (during the following
days).
Next part: Lisbon, part 1
