The Seroquel is working well |
I am taking 25mg up to 3 times a day, and it stops anxiety for me, so
it is just as well that he didnt want to prescribe Klonopin without
trying Seroquel first.
Works great!!! :-)

What's Seroquel?
A sedating anti-psychotic. It is fairly new.

Just a question, is this a new dosage range for Serequel? I've heard of
others being on dosages as high as 750mgs.

I don't think there is a standard dosages for
anti-dopaminergics/anti-psychotics. That's
what I remember reading, and the dosages for
ppl I know in Real Life also have a similar
range.

David, I take 1000mg of Seroquel! Of course, I'm a severe disorganised
schizophrenic. Usually those of us on high dosages are taking it for
schizophrenic symptoms (paranoia, hallucinations, etc). People on low
dosages usually take it for sleep or anxiety.
In conclusion, small dosage for anxiety, large dosage for schizophrenia.

Seroquel antagonizes serotonin 2a receptors, which helps reduce
anxiety/agitation from folks who use SSRIs, since all SSRIs bind to
serotonin 2a in varying degrees (and in varying dosages). Hence it is
useful to "relax" an individual with high level of anxiety or agitation
who is starting on SSRIs (panic, for example).
By antagonizing serotonin 2a, Seroquel also helps eliminate the
cognitive and emotional blunting (reduction in the *feeling*
department) that all SSRIs contribute to (especially Lexapro, the one
that binds to serotonin 2a the most).
Then there's the benefit of blocking alpha 1 & 2 receptors, as well as
histamine 1 receptors, promoting drowsiness and sleepiness.
Seroquel also transfers (especially in high doses) dopamine and
norepinephrine to the prefrontal cortex, which makes for a nice med for
clear thinking (needed in high doses for folks with schizophrenia and
Bipolars during the manic phase). This is where the anti-psychotic
effects comes in. It is also antipsychotic in its effect because it
blocks
dopamine 2 receptors, responsible for psychotic thoughts. Of course,
the higher the dose, the better the anti-psychotic effects.
Even at low doses, by blocking serotonin 2a, it helps in the
feelings/cognitive blunting department and the increased
anxiety/agitation department for those with garden-variety anxiety and
depression who are on SSRIs.

it depends on what it's being taken for. it can be used in small
doses as a sedative or sleep aid. i just take 25-50 mg at
bedtime. i also used it at 25mg prn for anxiety when i was last
hospitalized. for mania, my cousin takes 750mg.

I love Seroquel, but I can only take it at night. Even 25 mg. puts me
to sleep for six hours!

Good.
Be wary for the important adverse reactions:
Call your doctor immediately or seek medical attention if you experience
uncontrollable movements of the mouth, tongue, cheeks, jaw, arms, or
legs.
Call your doctor immediately or seek medical attention if you experience
fever, sweating, severe muscle stiffness (rigidity), confusion, fast or
irregular heart beats.

Most of the people who have problems with it are taking four to ten times
your dose.

You may be able to decrease it over time.
Some of the drugs have beneficial effects in tiny doses.
