Not my weekend. My creepy next door neighbour won't leave me alone. I
spent an hour arguing with the cops over why creepy guy looking in my
window, trying to climb on my balcony, and rattling my front door handle to
see if it's locked, IS creepy and illegal, and NOT just a guy trying to get

OMG! Rhi, don't let that happen. if cops can't help. call another set of
cops
or, have some GOOD neighbors over to your place, or maybe get a guard dog.
that would scare the living ***** out of me, if anyone tried to do that.
thats beyond
just creepy, its very threatening and yeah, illegal
if he comes back you could:
yell "honey, get the shotgun from the shelf and load it NOW, that creepy
intruder is back!"
that might only work once.
ASD, brainstorm some defence techniques for Rhi.
Rhi, stay safe from creepy scary bastards!

Thanks aaron. Obtaining a gun in Canada would mean buying it illegally. I
could legally own a handgun for use at a firing range or a rifle for use
during hunting season, however if said weapon is then used on a person, I
could end up in trouble. Though the laws seem to be relaxing somewhat.
Recently, a 15 year old boy shot and killed an intruder with a hunting rifle
when he caught the man trying to strangle his father to death in their home
and no charges were laid. I don't really want to shoot anyone. I just want
this guy to go away and leave me alone. I do have a very large and very
sharp knife which I am prepared to take my chances with if forced to. I
have a dog. A fearless little Jack Russell with a *very* nasty bite. She
could do quite a bit of damage in the right set of circumstances. I have
seen people who lost entire fingers and toes to a Jack. If luck were on her
side and she gained the advantage by getting at the face, the intruder would
need an ambulance, but she is only 25lbs, so a grown man "standing", with a
hard, well placed kick, could probably put her down. Mind you, she has me
to tag team with, and at this point I am way more angry than I am scared.

actually, I didn't mean you should get a gun of any kind, I just meant,
*pretend* you have a gun
and say to your man "honey get the gun, that creepy dude is back" but
maybe you already knew
that. I don't really like guns. although to protect a family or yourself,
it might be worth it. I would
also concider owning a medium to large (not giant) guard dog of at least 70
lbs, like German Shepherd
Doberman Pincher, or something along those lines. if you can afford it, and
if this becomes a regular
nusance/problem. as fearless as your Jack Russell is, i'm afraid she
wouldn't stand a chance against
a determined intruder, as you said. you could also buy some inexpensive
"Beware Of Dog" signs.
and "No Trsepassing" signs to hang on your place, outside, on the windows,
etc. and maybe something
like "This Residence Is under 24 hour police protection via closed circuit
camera" Radio Shack sells
these $25 fake CC cameras that really look like a real surveillance camera.
Knives are good I guess,
as a last-ditch defence. but even 180+ lb man holding a knife to defend
himself can be overpowered
by someone who is determined. worse thing that can happen, is the knife is
taken away from you and
used against you........... I guess though you are more pissed/annoyed than
scared. anyway........
do what you gotta do to protect yourself and your family! I used to
never lock the doors at
night, out here in the suburbs were its really very safe, but now I do,
because even out here, people's homes
are being broken into, people killed, or worse.
hoping / praying for your safety and well-being. later!

in canada you can't even threaten that you have a gun ,
you can get serious time in jail for it , her best move would be ,
to get photo's of the person in the act of threatening her peace and or

I see now. in the United States we are seemingly a little more "free" in
some ways to defend ourselves
than in Canada. although in other areas, Canadians are more free than
Americans.

lbs, like German Shepherd
Doberman Pincher, or something along those lines. if you can afford
it,
and
if this becomes a regular
nusance/problem. as fearless as your Jack Russell is, i'm afraid she
wouldn't stand a chance against
a determined intruder, as you said. you could also buy some
inexpensive
"Beware Of Dog" signs.
and "No Trsepassing" signs to hang on your place, outside, on the
windows,
etc. and maybe something
like "This Residence Is under 24 hour police protection via closed
circuit
camera" Radio Shack sells
these $25 fake CC cameras that really look like a real surveillance
camera.
Knives are good I guess,
as a last-ditch defence. but even 180+ lb man holding a knife to
defend
himself can be overpowered
by someone who is determined. worse thing that can happen, is the
knife
is
taken away from you and
used against you........... I guess though you are more
pissed/annoyed
than
scared. anyway........
do what you gotta do to protect yourself and your family! I used
to
never lock the doors at
night, out here in the suburbs were its really very safe, but now I
do,
because even out here, people's homes
are being broken into, people killed, or worse.
hoping / praying for your safety and well-being. later!
in canada you can't even threaten that you have a gun ,
you can get serious time in jail for it , her best move would be ,
to get photo's of the person in the act of threatening her peace and or
saftey
I see now. in the United States we are seemingly a little more "free" in
some ways to defend ourselves
than in Canada. although in other areas, Canadians are more free than
Americans.
yes we have different gun laws here , and a lot less murders
.

What are the 'crime against the person' rates in the two countries?

Dunno, but I'd imagine that in the U.S. the rate / ratio is FAR, FAR
higher.

New York has more murders in a year than all of Canada has in 5 years
That's because NY works harder. That's a 24 hour city.

Right. And I only responded with the US - Canada stats because that was
what Alan specifically asked for, however, regardless of what the numbers
are in any other country, a murder rate of 489 people over the course of a
year in a country with 32,422,919 people, is pretty freaking spectacular.
