my late doggie) who have their tails removed go on to suffer hip problems.

I watched a clip of a couple who owned a Roltweiler rescue center.
The guy stood one end of the field whilst his partner walked to the other
end. She called over the first dog (with tail) and it walked across swinging
its tail and not its hips. She then called the second dog over (no tail) as
the dog walked over to her, the dog's bum swayed side to side trying to
compensate for having no tail. It was amazing to see. The rescue center
owners had a number of roltweilers all with hip problems.

breeds.
Evidently a vet will remove a tail for a number of reasons. If the tail is
injured. If it's a working dog doing a job where a tail would be a
disadvantage (?). If it's a dog on the accepted docking list (very few dogs
are).
Most tail removal is done by the breeders these days. At one time the vets
did it, but now less scrupulous breeders use barbaric or draconian methods
because they know the vets would refuse. If only people stopped buying dogs
and cats without tails.

They've been trying to ban it in the UK for some time now. A lot of vets
won't do it unless it's detrimental to the animals health, and so breeders
are doing it. Only last week I heard of one breeder who cut the tails off his
newborn puppies with a pair of kitchen scissors. I know what I'd like to cut
off him.
