They're near impossible to manage sometimes. First it was my mom .. and now
my dad who had to be hospitalised. For what .. a reaction to an anti biotic
which triggered a vertigo attack.
I keep telling him not to take any medication outside his daily regimen but
he never listens to me. He loves taking tranquilizers and last night he
took a double dose of a prescribed anti biotic. Because of which he ended
up in the hospital overnight. He's home now, thankfully. Doing alright. But
I need to find a way to keep him from taking non prescribed stuff like
lexotenal, valium, laxatives, or anything else he thinks will cure his
latest predicament.
This was my sixth trip to the hospital with my dad since September ..
thrice because of a reaction to a particular med he took.
Any advice?

Take a deep breath and remember you can't make you dad do what he should. I
guess you could take all drugs that weren't prescribed for him out of the
house, but he's a big boy and should be able to make good decisions for
himself, unless he has Alzheimer's or something. In which case you should
definitely take drugs out of the house. The hardest thing in the world is
accepting what you do & don't have control over. And I've never met anyone
who can do it consistently. Good luck.
