x-no-archive: yes
I woke up to a two year old climbing into bed beside me.
And it is a climb for her.
First, she puts a foot on the middle shelf of the nightstand, next, on the
sideboard of the bed, then a
knee on the top of the nightstand, then an arm on the bed and hoists herself
up.
Sometimes life is too sweet.

Just wanted to hang out, I think.

Yes, I think that's important to her.
I know that there's still a lot of uncertainty. Sounds that I cannot hear
disquiet her. And the lights of the afternoon and twilight can also
frighten her.
But I don't want to stress that. She's having so much fun, and she brings
so much joy to us.
I think about her a lot, all the time I'm not focused on working, in fact,
and the thought of her always makes me smile. I've never been so
consistently happy as in the last few months.
In the middle of all that, though, I'll often imagine that, somehow, it's
all taken away. I couldn't bear that. Don't know where that comes from
except as a reflex of how good things are. I wonder if that's where Maia's
anxiety comes from.

Amen! I'm not fond of children, but the thought of anyone, especially a
child, putting forth such effort to be near me really melts my heart.
I think someone loves you. I hope you'll think of her, when life gets
you down.
Thanks for a wonderful story.
