This weird "youth" obession I have... |
Maybe someone else can understand this... and explain it to me.
For years I've always had this bit of sadness when it came thinking
about youth, friendship, first loves, etc, etc "coming of age" things
in general. I remember for instance (even at like 11 years old or so)
that films like Stand by Me used to depress the hell of out, guess
it's the whole "old guy looking back at the friends he once had
thing". I don't know. Get a similiar reaction to the film Hearts In
Atlantis...
I watched the new "Peter Pan" movie the other day, I know I should
cause I knew it probably would depress, but it was on and I couldn't
turn the channel. And I was right, it did... Same way with movies
like Hearts In Atlantis, and I can't even look at the cover of the
film Tuck Everlasting and not feel sad. I don't know, maybe it's
because the character in that film are two things I'm not: young and
achingly beautiful and they have things I don't, friends...
Maybe it's just simply that I'm lonely, and worry that i'll always be
that way. Or maybe it's the fact I'm 28 and never been in love (that
is, you love someone and they love you back) or hell, even on a real
date...
Course, I don't know, that seems like a mundane explanation...
Does anyone else have feelings similiar to this?
Maybe I'm just nuts...

Depressed? probably, crazy? Depends on your definitition.
Give it all time and crawl out of your shell and allow yourself to be out
there and known. You are so far from over the hill. My god, what I would
give to be in my 20's again, even late 20's. (10 years from now I'll be
saying that about my 30's :-). I'd suggest start taking some chances and
don't be so anxious over it all. You are far from getting too old to find
love. Make peace with yourself in the process.

I get delayed pain/etc reactions to seeing
ppl do things in Real Life that they don't
make available to me. Not the same thing
but I have learned to watch out for it.

Maybe spend less time at the video store and more time speaking to young
women.

I try, but social interaction has never been my strong point.
We're working on it though.

It may be that you have some depression. I used to be like that when I
wasn't doing well, I would think about my past, and get really
depressed. Now, I'm happy with my past, content with the present, but
worried about my future. It might be helpful to see a therapist. TV
would bother me sometimes, and still does, and was told either to not
watch it or turn it to something else.
