not pointless, just really really stupid. Esp. when you lack the
political will to actually carry it out. If we let Saddam free and we
bolted the country, he'd have that civil war stopped in under 3 months.

I doubt it. He no longer has his defense forces, police force, etc. I don't
think he would have a future there, even with us leaving.
However, we were probably better off with Saddam in charge there. At least,
he kept Al Qaeda out. Now, Iraq is in a civil war and has become an Al Qaeda
training camp... Bush's Iraq war is a very expensive mistake.
