Object: Three potties
There are three toilet bowls in the girls' bathroom at Maia's preschool.
Maia has started to go to potty. She is proud of this.
Yesterday, she wanted to go before she left the preschool, and so she took
Kristina into the bathroom.
Emily and Emma are friends of Maia. "Emily...Maia...Emma," Maia said,
pointing at the toilets to indicate whose was whose.
The things they do are so cute.
I'm in the middle of several highly contentious things at work--deals and
messes that clients are in. Every once in a while, I just stop and think
about the three potties, and it always makes me smile.

She should be! For my boys I used cheerios - helped improve their aim. But
Diana was so eager and so focused on getting it that we needed no tricks. That's
girls for ya.

Awww. :) You know what? You're really going to love it when she's a teenager,
I loved the age Maia is now but the teenage years are an absolute riot - you'll
see. I say pffft to people who characterize the teenage years as hell, they
really aren't! So much to look forward to, John.

Go on, tell me about the fun of having a suicidal teenager who
self-harms to get out of acute depressive crashes, and has become unable
to read in his main exam years, and I won't mention the derealisation
and hallucinations.

I can't because I don't know what it's like, I can only imagine that it must be
extremely difficult and heartbreaking. My parents would know because I had a
brother who was very ill and died of suicide.
Tenagers that are fortunate and industrious enough to be in flourish mode
however, are delightful. No reason to think that Maia won't be one of those.

Maia is a total imp.
She's taken to playing us off against each other. She will ultimately
assent to doing a thing one or the other of us wants her to do but only if
she gets to choose the other of us to be involved.
Drying hair is generally a big deal to fuss about. And I can understand
why, with that one. Kristina takes a towel and rubs the bejesus out of her
head with it.
Tonight, Maia took the towel out of Kristina's hands (who was on the floor
about five feet away from me) and held it out to me saying, "Papa," then
changed her mind and headed back to Kristina, saying, "Mama," then starting
darting back and forth between the two of us, saying,
"PapaMamaPapaMamaPapaMama," and laughing at herself.
I hope she's able to continue to do that.

Reminds me.....
/Way Back Decades Ago......
When I somewhere between 6 and 9 (probably closer to 6 than 9), I
remember my brother and I having a "contest" of sorts.
Mom had given the other one "more goodnight kisses", so she had to
come back and give the other one enough to make up for it. But she
kept giving too many to the other one. Back and forth she went.
She got her exercise that night. :-)
It was a wonderful game.
Even if she stops doing it, she might remember that as fondly as I
remember mine.
/End of Way Back Decades Ago.....

Just the sight of those little toilet bowls makes me smile. It's hard to
think that we were once all small enough to need them.
