It is sad to realize that I spent about 20 years to recompose myself. Had I
been free of depression I would have achieved much more from life, but I
feel happy I never failed to my daughter.

You did what you had to do. Never failing your daughter is something
to be proud of, something you can carry with you.
Have you cast about for new interests? I have recently renewed my
interest in rocks, Nothing earth shaking, but better than sitting
around feeling sorry for myself. ( I do save time for that as well.)

Thanks, Charles. I understand well what you tell me. I have some nostalgia
for what it could be and never was, but, yes, I am proud I never failed my
daughter, that's my main achievement in life. So, I do not complain and feel
grateful I am where I am now, although not a big shot.

Have you cast about for new interests? I have recently renewed my
interest in rocks, Nothing earth shaking, but better than sitting

I had this interest for computers, but it has waned off. I sometimes wonder
if this nostalgia I mention is really feeling sorry for myself. But I do not
think so, and I do not even think the right word is "nostalgia", but the
feeling is pretty much the same. I think that I am even with life. I owe it
nothing and I accept what it gave me, so I think that when I die, I will die
in peace. Life is a challenge, and I didn't do bad after all.

That is a major accomplishment. Being at peace with yourself is good,
better I think than fame won at the loss of self respect.

Thanks. I wouldn't want fame. I prefer to walk the streets as a normal
mortal. I actually do not envy noting to no one.

What is a rock club?

a club for rock hounds, people who are interested in rocks and
minerals. they typically have various outings to areas with
interesting types of rocks and geology.

I can't recall hearing of such a thing over here. Sounds less formal
than a geological society.

the geological society is usually the big, formal, national or
regional organization. a rock club is small and local.

I'm a member (a very inactive one) of a society that is attached to the
university. It has a county-wide group, but doesn't get smaller than
regional. (Yorkshire's a big county.)
There are local ones, though - geology started here, and some date back
to the eighteenth century as natural philosophy clubs.

Not yet, other than the Fluorescent Mineral Society, where so far it's
just be sending in some money and getting a newsletter. I think there
is a club near here, my FDOC (foot) is, or was, a member, he was into
faceting, I'm more into finding rocks and deciding what they are. I
have had pretty good luck in finding some, deciding what they are is a
different story, as is finding the ones I want to find.
I have a problem with organizations I join. I have a strong need to
make everything work, so I take on all sorts of tasks that other
people won't do, or don't want to. I joined a flower club some time
ago, found out I was obligated to give them 40 some weekends a year,
and got to watch people fight for no particular reason.

Antarctica, from what I've heard. Every rock on the surface of the
ice has to have come from somewhere else. Walking around in So. Cal,
it would just be another rock, no reason to pick it up.

I don't think it is found there, not certain. Near you are the
Franklin and Sterling areas, well, sort of near, that would be a day's
outing by my standards.
When I used to go to the east coast for work it would interest me when
people would talk about where they had gone on the weekend, how many
states. When I go to my mom's house it takes me about 12 hours just
to get out of California.

It is sad to realize that I spent about 20 years to

have achieved much more from life, but I feel happy I never
failed to my daughter.

children are our greatest legacy. it's good to know that one's
children are making the world a better place. i'm glad she has
the security of knowing that you're there for her.

Indeed, I am always there for here before anyone else. And I know you are
too with your children. I always enjoy reading about them. And the world is
a better place with our children on it, and the world is as a good place for
them according to what they have inside. I am convinced everybody lives in a
different world, I myself have lived in many.
