"Exotic pets" include birds. A small bird could be a good friend. I only
have two concerns:
1. Am I allergic to it?
2. Will it make a mess of my apartment?

It should be easy to find out if I am allergic to it. If I am allergic, then
I'll probably start to sneeze and cough and get itchy eyes just by standing
next to the bird's cage for a little while. Conversely, if I stand next to
the cage and breathe for a while without feeling any symptoms afterwards,
then I'm most likely not allergic to it.
