Trying out Verizon broadband (EV-DO) |
It's great and plenty fast for web browsing and email even with large
attachments. But I didn't realize I access usenet through charter
(nntp.charter.net) so Charter rejects my online ASD requests through
forte agent as they're not coming from them...not sure if verizon has
a usenet server, that sucks...well at least its a 15 day free trial.

When I was with verizon they had their own news server, pretty good
one as well. If you can get through to their tech support they can
help set it up. Had something weird, not just news.verizon.net, but I
forget what it was.

Naaah. It's all on the website. and they've probably changed the address
since you were there. I've had that happen a few times, with a few
different ISPs.

Not that this will make much of a difference, but just for the hell of it:

Most news servers don't allow cross-domain connections to prevent bots
from spamming the news groups. I know this to be true with Charter news
servers.
Get to a prompt and run: nslookup news, if Verizon has half a brain, and a
news server, it should resolve to a news server you can use. It might also
resolve to nntp.
On another topic... I'll never use Verizon for anything ever again because
they attempted to unionize I.T. workers and put them in the same union as
their telcomm workers. That would have protected their telcomm workers and
totally screwed over the I.T. workers, if not eventually, the entire I.T.
industry.
