Update on thumb |
1) It's looking about 80% better.
2) Thanks all for your feedback! If it hadn't improved so much today,
I'd have called the doc.
3) If it gets worse again, I'll call the doc. I promise.

That sounds great, but I would still recommend to see a doctor.

I think it is important to find out what kind of bug infected(?) your thumb
to know what risks you have to have one of those abscess in another part of
the body, specially internally, and to know if it is not one of those
conditions where the abscess disappears, but the illness is still advancing.

One thing about this doctor... if it's important, she never
pooh-poohs it.
As long as I give her all the info she needs, she jumps right on
things.
Although I got a talking to last time cuz I wasn't recording my

Ya never know. As Deminimi reminded me, I have to be more careful
about my appendages.
And.... last time, when my doc looked at my feet, she noticed a
scratch from a cat. Asked me how old it was. Then she wanted me to
push my sleeve up and asked me how much time I spend in the sun.
She was concerned about the color of the scar. Since I already have
autoimmune diabetes AND autoimmune thyroiditis, she's watching for
autoimmune adrenal gland destruction. The combo (diabetes,
hypothyroid and Addison's) is called Schmidt's. Or something like
that.
And scar hyperpigmentation could be an early symptom.
So ya just never know what bits and pieces of data will mean something
to her.

She is VERY good. She's the one who I didn't have to convince to test
me for Type 1. She looked at my chart (before I came in to see her)
and she immediately decided I was Type 1, just based on my statistics.
She ordered the test to prove it.

When do you have your appointment?
I thought it was next week, but it's a couple weeks from now. It'll
be long gone by then. I'm pretty sure now though that it was from the
cats. Probably one of them hooked me under the nail where I couldn't
see it later when the infection started up.

You are lucky, then. Not everybody has a good familiar doctor. There are
some who seem not to like their job.

Good theory. I am almost sure there is nothing to worry about. But your

That's who was my HMO at first. They decided I was Type 2 and put me
on oral meds without even testing the assumption, purely because i was
37 y/o. It didn't matter to them that I was 15 lbs underweight. And
when I asked to see the diabetes doctor, the nurse got snippy with me
and told me that *she* would decide when and if I needed to see the
doc.
I'm still angry about it.
