warrants out |
for the arrest of my son. disturbing the peace and failure to keep
probation appointment. 1000.00 bond.
online is great, find out all sorts of things. great, great day (sarcasm)
didn't even know he had been arrested. he won't talk to me so I don't know
how much trouble he's in. So what is 1000.00 bond? Dumb question, that
wouldn't clear the charges or keep him from jail would it?
I wish he would let me help him, help him get lined up with counselor,
treatment, whatever it took to move forward with his life and not screw it
up more. To other people he's just another pot head ***** up in the system,
to me, he's still my son and I love him.

hi.. sorry to hear. I think the bond would actually keep him out of jail.
Its like security. You give them the money or sign and say you will give
them money if he doesn't appear in court to face the charges.
Wishing you both the best.

As if you didn't have enough on your plate.
Once your son is located, arrested and placed in a jail cell is when bond
comes into play. It gets him out until he can appear before a judge (i.e.
doesn't have to spend too many nights in jail). If you have the $1000, you
can post bail. If you don't, you can go through a bail bondsman who will
post the bail and charge you some part of that, depending on your
circumstances and what security you can offer. You can, I think, line this
up in advance (the bail bondsman, if you go this route) so you can pop your
son out of jail as soon as his butt lands there.
Once whoever posts bail does so, your son is out of jail until his scheduled
court appearance. If he fails to appear, bond is forfeited and the judge
will issue a new warrant adding failure to appear to the charges and
increasing the amount of, or denying, bail.
Has no effect on the charges or the likelihood that he spends time in jail
for the warrant charges, other than if he fails to appear for his court
appointment - in which case he will in all likelihood receive more severe
punishment than he would have otherwise. And you will be out the bail money
one way or another.
Not my area of expertise, just my understanding of the situation. If anyone
knows I've said something wrong, please correct.

Should clarify that if he *does* make his scheduled court appearance, the
bail is returned.
I don't know if you can cancel the original arrest in favor of a court date
by posting bond. Something to look into.

I've only been arrested once, that was for being psychotic and completely
out of my mind.
I was released on my own recognisence (sp) with the stipulation that I take
my meds.
I had to go to court and all that. Short of it was I got probation.

Except for the bail bondsman's
percentage -- if that's the path taken.

That's fair enough, I think. Not a sign
of real trust, I'll admit that. Heck, if
I were Packrat, I might make my son sign
the bondsman's agreement before I'd set
myself up for a financial liability.
Then, if he didn't show up for court,
I'd only be very, very disappointed,
terribly worried, and extremely sad. But
I'd still have the cash to help him with
a lawyer instead of it going to bail.

Maybe you could get an attorney. Somtimes that could be helpful. I
think there are organizations that offer free legal advice, or can
represent someone in court if they see a need to. One suggestion would
be to check with the Mental Health Association in your area, and ask
for some referals.

Umm, is there a Narco-Non .org? Never heard of it.
So I recommend, strongly, Al-Anon.

Does he have any friends that you know
who you could contact to act as a
middleman for your communications with
him? His friends must worry about him,
too, and may appreciate his mom reaching
out.
