That was the book! Darn, I would have been glad to send you a copy. Since
it helped me so much, I started picking up copies from used bookstores (I
can always use an excuse to visit used bookstores) and I always have a
couple of extra copies sitting around here.
Have you been looking at it? I haven't read it for years but if you're
reading it I'm going to dig out a copy and look at it again too.
I swear that book changed my life. It was the beginning of learning not to
let people manipulate me into all sorts of things I didn't want to do. You
are such a powerhouse, cindy, you have so much heart and soul. With
assertiveness skills, my money's on you to make the world your oyster. And
if you don't like oysters, then that world is gonna be your big ole
chocolate truffle!

yes, i've read a few chapters and i *really* like how the guy thinks. and
he's funny, too. it always helps when there is humor involved in these
psycho self-help books. ;-)

I am right there on that same page with you. A self help book by its nature
means work, not just reading for pleasure. If it's gonna make me work, it
had better make me laugh too. I don't feel like I'm taking myself so
seriously while I'm reading the thing if I'm chuckling at the same time.

i can see how it would help in so many ways.

I like the way it starts out telling me what my assertive rights are,
because I really didn't feel like I had those rights and I needed the
validation of someone else telling me that I really did have the right to
those things. Then what really made the difference for me was that it gives
you techniques to use -- not just the theory, but the "how to" in actual
suggested words, phrases, things you can actually say in the situations
where you need to be assertive. I mean, if we already knew what to say,
that would be half the battle, but I didn't know what to say until I got the
suggestions from the book. It had never occurred to me that I could say
stuff like that to someone, and yet it's not like it's hostile stuff to say.
It's not being aggressive at someone else, just assertive. I didn't know
the difference between those things before I read that book, not really, not
enough anyway. Doing anything other than "being nice", which almost always
meant letting someone else have their way regardless of how it affected me,
was something I didn't have the skills for and desperately needed to learn.

You

are such a powerhouse, cindy, you have so much heart and soul. With
assertiveness skills, my money's on you to make the world your oyster.
And if you don't like oysters, then that world is gonna be your big ole
chocolate truffle!

awwww, thank ya girl!!!

Thank *you* for being my friend. I have no doubt that with your quick and
sassy wit, if you decide you want to try this stuff, you will get *really*
good at it after a while (it always takes some practice) and you will seldom
be at a loss for the words you need. And that's only *one* of the great
things about you! :-)

How dare you. How DARE you?! Just because you're management, that does
not give you the right to speak to my union brother in such a

There *will* be repercussions, and perhaps consequences.

Mr Bee

Well, now that you put it that way, I am filled with a penitence so great I
won't be able to overcome my shame without grabbing a cold soda and thinking
about my sins while watching something uplifting, like South Park. Whoops,
I was wrong -- the soda by itself did it! All better!
I don't suppose you could convince your demented cohort to stay the hell off
the roof during the winter? This is Seattle. We get rain in Seattle. Lots
and lots of rain. It maketh the roof slippery, and doth cause the brethren
to slideth downward, where yea verily, the ground she is hard.
By the way, what labour board is this? The fantasy labour board that you
think can somehow overpower your beauteous wife and I? Ha! Dream on, ...I
was going to call you a member of the proletariat masses, but do you and
Fred really constitute a mass? I'm not sure you two hooligans even rightly
make up a gang.
Repercussions, eh? C6TFY555555555555555onsequences, eh? Well, there was
one. Typing too long allows time for the cat to travel across the keyboard.
Okay, Union Boy! You got a list of demands? Grievances you got? Let's
hear 'em! You can't make me give up my vaccuum cleaners, is what I say!

Huh.
Well let's list my power tools:
reciprocating saw
cordless drill
cordless circular saw
chainsaw (woo!)
leaf blower
OK. Now I have a question for you. How many
vacuum cleaners do you own? I believe the
answer is at least 5! So who is the fetishist

the person who has multiples of the same thing??

And you caress them so lovingly. The chainsaw you hold up in the air and
wave around in celebratory triumph, as though you just can't hold it in any
more. Seldom do I see a grin that big on anyone's face, and there is an
unholy light in your eyes!

OK. Now I have a question for you. How many

Yeah, but how many of them *work*?! Most of them don't work!
Plus, we have a main floor, upstairs, and basement. The stairs aren't like
normal stairs either up or down; they're steeper and more precarious than
normally spaced stairs, and harder to maintain balance and safety whilst
negotiating. Add trying to carry a heavy vaccuum up and down either set of
those stairs, and it's treacherous. So really, I need *more* vaccuums so
that I have a good working vaccuum for each floor! Well, okay, maybe the
shop vac we have needs to go into the basement.
You still think I spent too much money on the Dyson, but I LOVE MY DYSON,
plus, like RJ said, it's purple!

that recommended the book, "when i say no i feel guilty" to me?

That was the book! Darn, I would have been glad to send you a copy.

Since

it helped me so much, I started picking up copies from used

bookstores

(I

can always use an excuse to visit used bookstores) and I always have

a

couple of extra copies sitting around here.

Have you been looking at it? I haven't read it for years but if

you're

reading it I'm going to dig out a copy and look at it again too.

I swear that book changed my life. It was the beginning of learning
not

to

let people manipulate me into all sorts of things I didn't want to

do.

You

are such a powerhouse, cindy, you have so much heart and soul. With
assertiveness skills, my money's on you to make the world your

oyster.

And

if you don't like oysters, then that world is gonna be your big ole
chocolate truffle!

Just say "No".

if you ever wanna know where Tim is ,
just find a Bunny post

He just uses me as a reminder to feed his pets.
