That's why I listen to the BBC radio news in the morning - it only lasts
ten minutes. TV news usually has me wanting to wear something on my
feet, so that I can throw my slipper at the screen (a slipper is
unlikely to cause permanent damage - TVs are expensive).

The opinions given above may be mine. They might also
just be what I feel like saying right now, okay?

Why do you have a thing about us paying for good, advert free,
television?

'Cause Yanks pay for sub-mediocre, ad-infested TV. How dare you have it
better than we'uns here across the pond!

I'm not a huge fan of the licence fee but the alternative is just not
worth thinking about. The advert-infested stuff on ITV, for instance,
is just not worth watching. So much so that I don't watch anything on
there at all. The BBC is getting worse though, constant ratings
chasing (which is *not* in their remit) is eroding quality and public-
service broadcasting.

I don't, I wish we had that sort of thing here...but for a much cheaper
bill. What is it, like £116 per year? That's $240USD. It seems to me as
though complaining about the cost of a TV pales to that. The BBC cost
could get a decent 25" TV...so it makes the cost of a TV less relevant
than the yearly bill. Not that you would want to toss one off the
balcony daily.

Last time I was in a shop that sold them, TVs cost more over here.

It is pretty upsetting to watch the news... reading the newspaper
is preferable, in my opinion, because you
can choose what to read and what to avoid...
