We had an election today |
only one measure on the ballot, a simple yes or no vote.
I've been watching the results come in.
so far two people voted both yes and no, 4 people didn't vote for
either yes or no.
Why go to the bother of going to the polling place to cast a blank
ballot?

In Australia we get fined if we don't vote in local, state or federal
elections.
Usually I have an opinion....some years I couldn't care less and a blank
vote sounds like a pretty good idea.

I forgot to vote in the last State election and didn't get fined. I know
the fine is law, but maybe it's not being enforced any longer, or maybe it
was just a slip-up. Then again, they might catch up with me in fifty years
time and charge me compound interest.

We don't have that rule, I used to think it would be a good idea, but
I'm not so sure any more

because if a statistically significant portion of voters cast blank/double
votes, it might make obvious the hypocrisy of such a 'democracy'..
