There are certain tones I can't hear and if someone is a mumbler and it's a
certain tone forget it I can't hear it unless I'm next to them and reading
their lips.

female voices, particularly young girls.
In my case, my loss isn't uniform over the frequency range. I have dead
spots. If a voice falls in to one of those dead spots, I have to supplement
by reading lips, not that I'm much good at doing that, but it helps. Other
voices that don't fall in a dead spot are crystal clear.
