Weed colored glasses |
My coworkers seem happy enough here. They do not have the problems
with managers that seem to come to me. Perhaps it is not so much that
everything here is so terribly wrong, as it is that concentrate only
on the negative. The opposite of rose colored glasses.
Just now, I have been rifling through a binder for a tax return I was
handed. Work was done on it before but I do not know how much. When it
was handed to me, the person who had the job before (another manager)
remarked that I should read her e-mails before doing anything, so I
would know what has been done.
So I looked. And looked. And looked.
I saw some VERY OLD e-mails that were printed out in regards to the
tax return a few years ago. I saw a letter from the client complaining
about our exhorbitant billing rates and slowness. But I saw nothing
from this manager.
So I went to her. First I asked her about the complaint letter. "Are
you sure I should take over this job? Switching accountants on them
AGAIN may tick them off." To which she responded: "Why are you
concerning yourself with THAT letter? It has nothing to do with you!
You were supposed to read the e-mails."
"Yes, about those, I couldn't find them."
She sighed heavily, grabbed the binder from my hands, and flipped to
the table of contents. She pointed at it and said "Tab 11 is
correspondence, didn't you know, idiot?" (I do not think she considers
"idiot" insulting, as she uses it often.) So she flips to tab 11 and
shows me the pages and pages of ... nothing at all.
"Oh."
She looks around, knocks some books over in her office, and eventually
pulls out a new binder. "All of the e-mails are in here, now hurry up
and get started."
So I have a client that may be testy with me when I contact them, but
that is not my concern, and I have already been called an idiot for
her oversight. Wonderful.
I can not wait to quit this job. But then, I suppose my next job will
be just as dreadful, as the fault seems to lie entirely with me and my
opposite of rose colored glasses.

I'm betting that what makes you different from the other
employees is *INTELLIGENCE*.
I hope you can soon find an employer who values that quality.

If the boss was interested in keeping that client, she'd have dealt with
the matter herself, in person, already.
If the boss was worth working for, she'd pay more attention to what her
staff are telling her.
Perhaps when she's lost all the clients who care about decent service, and
all the staff who care about decent service, she'll have the business she
wants (and deserves).
