I gained 10 lbs in 10 days recently. Saw the doctor.Yes, fluid retention
with a disease as the cause. Don't panic, though. The reason enned't be
serious. But I would consult a doc if I were you.

my pdoc said fluid retention is the most likely culprit, but i
don't know how fluid would go on so slowly and steadily. every
day, the scale reads 1/2 or 1 lb heavier. maybe i will make an
appt with my family doc to be safe.
i hope you're ok, and that the retention has stopped.

That's what happened here. I did have other symptoms, too. Weird heart beat,
low body temperature, fatigue and all kinds of strange things. My blood
pressure also turned out to be high. I think even without all the extra
symptoms I had, getting you BP checked might be wise. But listen to doctors
rather than me.
I found the "fluid weight" made my body look funny, it had a different
consistency than before, so to speak. Think Jello wobbliness :) PLus thick
ankles and such.
maybe i will make an
appt with my family doc to be safe.
I would, if I were you. In my case, they did some general blood test,
checked my urine (to see how the kidneys were doing) and they listened to my
heart. Plus they checked my thyroid for swollenness.
i hope you're ok, and that the retention has stopped.
Not yet, but I'll get there slowly but surely. If you're interested in my
diagnosis, please let me know by e-mail. I doubt we have the same thing, but
it doesn't hurt to have some information.

Sounds like me when I was taking seroquel. 20 kg (40 pounds) in about 2 or
3 months. And the weight gain continued for a while even after I stopped
the med and started on a strict meal replacement drink diet.
I blame the seroquel for the gallstones I ended up with a few months later.
Overall I don't regret taking it though, I really needed it at the time
because nothing else was working.

i'm only taking an occasional 25mg of seroquel at night. i've
taken much more without gaining anything. i think this has
something to do with my med taper, though i don't know why.

isn't wellbutrin is supposed to give you more energy somehow, and maybe
increase metabolism..... or am i wrong? my doc said that i can try
wellbutrin if i wanted to (this was late 2004) but at that time, my
anxiety was the worst thing, and i was dealing with this weird
caffine-induced
reaction that made me feel like i was gonna die, it was so bad... so it
might not have
reacted well to wellbutrin. but now, with that over, I'm REALLY thinking
about trying
wellbutrin. not comfortable with trying cymbalta (which is a new drug for
the U.S.)
which i have a script for, but I'm too weary of it, to fill it and try. (i
said this before)
hopefully a different med for you will stop the weight gain.... if there is
any!
(who knows scales can be tricked out like Bacon said)

thanks. now i have nothing that fits. as per my mil's
stipulation, i gave away all my larger clothes. money's too
tight to get new clothes now, so i'm trying to squeeze into
pants a size too small one-handed. it's almost funny.

Maybe Parnate was holding your weight down?
I put on twenty-five kilos when I went on an anti-psychotic, but they
have a reputation for weight gain. Losing it again is going very slowly.

i hadn't started a new antipsychotic when the weight gain
started. it must somehow be related to the parnate.

Parnate is a heavyweight, and going onto it, or coming off it will do
all sorts of things. I don't suppose the instruction leaflet that comes
with it mentions what to expect when you quit it. US ones say much more
than UK leaflets, so maybe it does.

i just looked up the withdrawal info on the web, and there's
no mention of weight gain or fluid retention. otoh, my doctor
says that i never get a normal case of anything, and my
pharmacist has commented that i often get uncommon side-
effects. i guess i'm special...

My weight shot up when I went onto an anti-psychotic (I forget which),
but that was a known side-effect. I rarely get known side-effects.
I can't remember what I started at, because I was losing weight at the
rate of several kilos a week before I went onto it and Parnate. It
sounds like all I have to do to lose weight is go on a med holiday, and
survive.

there was a study on Risperdal and it claimed that metabolism was not
altered and that caloric intake increased. i would suspect that APs slow
you down and you eat more. i dunno about ADs.
i gained about 20 lbs on Zyprexa, and hit 195. i was very sedentary. i am
on Seroquel now and lost a good bit of weight. all my clothes feel so big.

and I've lost a lot of weight going from Risperadol to Seroquel and now
to Geodon. I don't know how much because I don't have a scale, but I can
see a difference. I've also cut carbonation almost completely out of my
diet.
