Object: What does it mean to "grow up"?
I was reading a book review this morning about a well known
author, and the reviewer was talking about how the author never grew up
in many ways, how he saw things in a very childlike way,and how that
limited the scope and range of his work,as well as the quality...the
author couldn't deal honestly with the tough things in life,he wanted
to "prettify" things...When I was reading the review I was reminded of
myself...In many ways,I think I haven't really grown up yet.I'm 31
years old,but not 31 in other ways.I'm not really refering to work
issues,just issues in general...It's complicated...In some ways I think
it's good to be "childlike"(as opposed to childish). In many ways,I
think that's something everyone should aim for...But on another level,I
think I should work on growing and maturing...being more willing to
face the difficult complexities of life...The reviewer was saying that
the author wanted to live in a childlike world,so he wouldn't have to
face the harsh realities of life,I definatly related to that...

I see what you're saying. The sad thing is that I think she goes to
the opposite extreme...Whatever happened to her in her life seems to
have blocked out her positive childlike
qualties:playfulness,humor,mellowness,easygoingness,"low keyness",maybe
she just grew up way too early?I always think, she should smoke a
joint,take some LSD,loosten up,for god sakes...Maybe the key,as with
just about everything is balance...

Shut up you little twit. For all your yammering, I have never seen anyone with
less insight than you. With your ad nauseum talk about being childlike and not
growing up, you and Michael Jackson have a lot in common -- creepy.
And if you want balance, get a fucking job and stop sponging off everyone!

I didn't read the reply from my friend in this friend, but I REALLY
hope that I was called a "Chocalate Chip-*****" this time, instead of a
generic old "chip *****"(that word is WAY too overused these days.)...If
I was not called a "chocalate chip *****" this time,I will have no
available option but to call her an "OATMEAL RAISIN Chip *****" next
time!

Well I have to give her a lot of credit...I think she's come up with
more variations of the word "*****"(and ***** and *****) over the years
then anyone else I can think of...That takes lots of talent!and
imagination! her mind is certainly focused on all the right things,I
guess..

Maturity is not making excuses for things you do and not doing things you
make excuses for.
